- Cadillac is the fastest-growing luxury brand in United States
- Gains more than 2 percentage points of luxury market share in 2010

DETROIT – Cadillac continued to gain strength in the U.S. luxury auto market as the brand posted total U.S. sales in August of 12,689, up 83 percent from the same month a year ago.

Much of that gain has been fueled by consumer demand for Cadillac vehicles, resulting in retail sales gains of 83 percent in August, the seventh consecutive month of total sales gains.

Cadillac total U.S. sales through August have risen 50 percent, compared to the first eight months of last year. Cadillac gained more than 2 percentage points of share in the U.S. luxury market through July – making it the fastest-growing luxury brand – and is expected to gain ground again in August.

“Cadillac has an impressive line-up that continues to attract returning and new luxury buyers to the brand,” said Kurt McNeil, vice president of Cadillac Sales and Service. “Whether someone is looking for a luxury sedan, coupe, crossover or SUV, Cadillac now has a product offering that’s commanding attention.”

Total SRX crossover sales are up 209 percent, while retail sales rose 410 percent – the 12th straight month of triple-digit retail sales increases. SRX has been gaining market share in the mid-size luxury crossover segment since its redesign for the 2010 model year.

CTS sales rose 61 percent in August and are up 13 percent calendar year to date over 2009. Consumer demand for CTS has been bolstered by the arrival of the all-new 2011 CTS Coupe, which recently joined the CTS Sport Sedan and CTS Sport Wagon.

Escalade sales also rose in August, up 15 percent from the same month last year.

During the week of August 16, the CTS Coupe Premiere Week was held at Cadillac dealerships across the U.S. The events highlighted the design and performance of the Coupe, which competes against the BMW 335i Coupe, Mercedes-Benz E350 Coupe and Audi A5.

“Cadillac’s CTS-V Coupe makes German rivals look like taxis,” according to a Wall Street Journal review of the high-performance V-Series model of the CTS Coupe. “The entertainment factor is off the charts in the CTS-V.”

Cadillac has long been an innovator in safety technologies, but the next innovation could really be a quantum leap forward towards a crash-free future. It may sound like sci-fi, but it’s not all that far-fetched.

John Capp, director for Global Active Safety at Cadillac, says future Cadillac technologies could include in-vehicle Doppler radar to spot obstructions or traffic jams ahead. Looking even further out, Capp sees autonomous vehicles that can communicate with each other, traffic signals and buildings, pointing to a world where cars may actually drive themselves.

“We see things moving toward a point in the future where perhaps vehicles won’t crash,” said Capp. “We work on developing advanced safety technologies for Cadillac that alert drivers to potential dangers around them.”

Cadillac is already evolving its technology to come closer to the vision of a crash-proof car. Capp and his team of engineers, inventors and futurists have developed life-saving active safety technologies that are already in place on the 2010 Cadillac STS Platinum, including:

Lane departure warning – a camera-based lane detection system that warns the driver when he or she leaves their lane without signaling. The camera, mounted near the inside rearview mirror, identifies traffic lane markings and provides audible alerts.

Blind spot alert – twin radar beacons that detect an object in a vehicle’s blind zone and provide a visual warning in the outside side mirror.

Adaptive cruise control – sensors detect objects in a vehicle’s path and slow the vehicle down to avoid a collision.

“We’re evolving those technologies to develop the capability where vehicles will be able to avoid crashes,” Capp said.

cadillac cts coupeDETROIT – Cadillac dealers across the United States are unveiling the all-new 2011 CTS Coupe in their local markets starting today as they host special events for CTS Coupe Premiere Week. One of the most anticipated new models of the year, the CTS Coupe recently began arriving at dealerships.

The CTS Coupe is expected to attract a new generation of luxury sports car enthusiasts to Cadillac and go head-to-head with the BMW 335i Coupe, Mercedes-Benz E350 Coupe and Audi A5. “Cadillac is once again ready to compete with the world’s best,” Autoblog wrote in its review of the CTS Coupe.

Almost 300 Cadillac dealers will host events showcasing the new model as part of CTS Coupe Premiere Week. Customers should contact their local Cadillac dealer for more information about the CTS Coupe and details on the event in their area.

The CTS Coupe has been cited by the automotive press for its groundbreaking design and outstanding performance. “It’s safe to say the coupe is positively gorgeous,” Automobile magazine wrote in a review. “Pictures simply don’t do it justice, which is saying quite a bit.”

“The CTS Coupe is one of the most significant automobiles to enter the market this year,” said Kurt McNeil, vice president of Cadillac sales and service. “It represents the new focal point for Cadillac in terms of design and performance. Cadillac and its dealers want to make sure customers are given a chance to get an up-close look at this stunning new vehicle.”

The CTS Coupe extends the CTS line, which has been named to Car and Driver’s 10 Best list for three straight years. It shares design cues with the CTS Sport Sedan, but the CTS Coupe has a wider track, lower roofline and shorter length, giving it an aggressive stance and sleek, athletic profile.

The CTS Coupe starts at $38,990 and comes standard with a 3.6L Direct Injection V6 engine that produces 304 horsepower, six-speed auto tap up/down shifting, rear-park assist and Bose audio. A high-performance CTS-V Coupe model also is available with a 6.2L Supercharged V8 that produces 556 horsepower, dual-mode magnetic ride control suspension and Brembo brakes.

2011 cadillac ctsDETROIT – The 2011 Cadillac CTS received the highest-possible ratings of “Good” in front, side, rear and rollover crash protection tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which recognized CTS as a 2010 Top Safety Pick

“The CTS earns the Institute’s top safety designation with the highest ratings in four demanding crash tests,” said Institute president Adrian Lund. “The tough award criteria also require electronic stability control, a crucial safety feature that can help drivers avoid many crashes altogether.”

The 2011 CTS embodies Cadillac’s commitment to continuous safety before, during and after a crash. Complimenting CTS’s high-strength steel body structure and safety cage are a number of standard features. These include dual-stage driver and passenger front air bags, front seat mounted pelvic / thorax side air bags, roof-rail side curtain airbags covering the front and rear seating rows, reduced force front safety belts with dual pretensioners, front seat active head restraints and the safety and security of OnStar.

“The IIHS Top Safety Pick Award strengthens the reputation of the CTS,” said Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac Marketing. “The CTS has not only caught the attention of enthusiasts with its cutting-edge design and dynamic driving experience, but it also continues to be a leader in its class for safety and quality.”

The CTS is among the most highly acclaimed luxury automobiles in the industry. It has been named to Car and Driver’s 10 Best List for three straight years. The CTS also placed in the top 10 of all vehicles in the most recent J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study. In July, Cadillac launched the all-new 2011 CTS Coupe, joining the CTS Sport Sedan and CTS Sport Wagon in the CTS line.
