The Cadillac Magazine for Cadillac Owners By Cadillac Owners

The Bowling Green Daily News reports that the Cadillac XLR will cease production forever this spring. The design of the XLR originated from the Evoq concept unveiled at the 1999 Detroit Auto Show. Unfortunately, GM needs to cut costs – and the last model will likely be a 2010 available near in the autumn of 2009. The Cadillac XLR’s high price, low volume and decreasing sales do not make for a strong business case in an economic environment that’s not conducive to new car sales in general. continue reading…

Is Cadillac ready to have Lincoln as a serious competitor once again? I bet not. While Cadillac allowed for their “Ultra” Northstar program (a much needed update to the dual overhead cam 32 valve v8 engine) to fall through the cracks, Lincoln has been working on their 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 for the 2010 model year. Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, the twin-turbo engine is rated at 355 bhp and 350 lb-ft torque, all while providing 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. This is exactly where Cadillac needs to be for their non-V-Series vehicles. 320 horsepower and 315 foot pounds of torque is old news for heavy luxury cars. Then you have the even weaker “new” 3.6 direct injected v6 found in the CTS and upcoming SRX. continue reading…

In mid December General Motors put on display their latest “High Feature” V6 engine; the 3.0L – which will be replacing the role of the larger 3.6L HF V6, in many applications in the GM lineup. This smaller engine utilizes direct injection. GM has already confirmed that the engine will be in the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, 2010 Cadillac SRX, 2010 Buick LaCrosse, 2010 GMC Terrain and 2010 Cadillac CTS. continue reading…
